PROJECT SUMMARY

BestBuyLocal was the vision of a local entrepreneur who wanted to promote local businesses and services. The vision of the site was to bring together a "shop window" for local businesses; a simple route into local government agencies and the ability to post personal sales adverts to a targeted audience.

At the point that NVABLE was approached, the web application had been under development for over a year. NVABLE was asked to take over the development to establish the site.

The main areas of functionality required were:

• Browsing products by category.
• Geographic filtering so that site customers could view results pertinent to the area of interest.
• Shopping basket and e-commerce that could support multi-vendor check out. An additional facility of the site was to allow the local vendor to support one or many checkout and delivery options (i.e. online payment; pay via phone).
• Category and geographic filtering also applied to classified adverts.
• At a regional level the services of various government agencies and support bodies were highlighted.
• Administration facilities to allow vendors to manage their product catalogue and promotions.

NVABLE also implemented the site design to the specification of the owner.

The site was launched successfully. However, due to a number of other opportunities and commitments, the owner decided that the business required more focus than he could afford at that point. He asked NVABLE to archive the application until a more appropriate time.
