PROJECT SUMMARY
Bombardier Transportation had been working on techniques to derive value from the sensor readings captured from various systems built into its trains. The volume of data collected each day from each train is considerable. One of the key milestones in establishing the new capability within Bombardier was to be able to visualise the data.
NVABLE were commissioned to create a new website that would allow the data to be visualised using various graphing techniques and provide a way of exploring the value the data may offer. To achieve this the NVABLE team worked closely with the engineering analysts and predictive engineering specialists.
A high level summary of the functionality requested was:
- Overview of a fleet of vehicles displaying whether an alert has been triggered, the time that data was last received for each vehicle etc.
- Charting of fault codes recorded per vehicle through time. This was to provide drilldown capabilities so that the detail behind the summary views could be accessed easily.
- Time series analysis of system specific data feeds (for example, the door systems; engine parameters etc).
- Creation of an alerting facility to allow the engineers to generate alerts (to e-mail or sms) when certain conditions occurred more than a defined number of times within a designated time period.
Subsequent to the development of the first phase of the system. NVABLE worked closely with Bombardier to implement techniques to intelligently filter out unnecessary data as it was received.
NVABLE continue to host this system for Bombardier and NVABLE is delighted to continue to support Bombardier in the creation of its new business services.
