PROJECT SUMMARY

Good Creative is one of the leading design agencies in Scotland. On-line design (for websites etc) is one aspect of their design portfolio and the company expanded their service provide a hosted service to allow customer to manage content.

During 2006 they approached NVABLE to discuss options for creating a new type of Content Management System (CMS). Good Creative were looking for a system that:

• Separated the functionality completely from the design so that new features could be added as required.
• Could host multiple sites from one application. Good had multiple versions of a CMS supporting various customers. Each version had become very difficult to manage as they had been independently enhanced to specific customer requirements.
• Implemented modular functionality so that customers could sign up for new functionality as they required it and so one piece of development effort could be utilised multiple times.

Many options were considered, including adapting existing open-source tools. Ultimately it was decided to create a new application that implemented a unique visual interface to manage content, navigation and access to modules.

The CMS is now implemented and Good Creative host a number of their client sites using it.

Good Creative and NVABLE have also agreed to make the CMS available as an open source project. Both companies will be committed to the ongoing development of the tool whilst allowing others to participate and benefit.

The open-source project should be available from Autumn 2007.
